Alibaba Cloud releases open-weight Qwen-Image-2.1 for image generation and editing

Alibaba Cloud announced Qwen-Image-2.1, a unified image generation and editing model in the Qwen-Image series, and said its weights are now open. The company described the model as a lightweight 7B architecture for both generation and editing.

According to the announcement, Qwen-Image-2.1 can natively generate and edit RGBA layers for compositing and text editing on transparent images. It also supports up to 10 reference images and precise local control, while aiming to preserve fidelity for portraits and products. Alibaba Cloud additionally said the model covers panoramas, infographics, and virtual try-ons.
