GitHub Copilot now supports generally available local sandboxing, enabling commands to run in an isolated environment with restricted access to files, networks, system capabilities, and credentials. The feature provides users with more granular control while allowing enterprise teams to centrally manage execution policies.

Local sandboxing is available to use in GitHub Copilot CLI, the GitHub Copilot app, and code, according to GitHub's [changelog update](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-07-local-sandboxing-for-gitHub-copilot-now-generally-available?utm_source=x-launch-local-sandboxing-general-availability&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=oct-7-event-oct-2026).
