Dan Wahlin builds a Waveshare ESP32 face for his AI agent

Dan Wahlin’s AI agent now has a physical face: a Waveshare ESP32 on his desk. It shows four states: idle, working, needs a decision, and done.

He pointed Copilot CLI at a photo of the device and got blink, look-around, tap, sleep, and hook-driven states. A web-based character studio lets him adjust animations without flashing firmware after each change. The project is in the esp32-agent-companion repository.

Best Taste-Bench model chooses the better direction 59.7% of the time

A paper from Microsoft and colleagues reports that the best model answers 59.7% of Taste-Bench questions correctly when choosing the better open direction in long engineering and research tasks. Forks decided by later evidence are much harder, a larger reasoning budget does not raise accuracy, and distilling a teacher’s outcome judgment improves held-out SWE-bench Pro success.
